le happy

I had a lovely, happy weekend. I hope you all did too!

I tend to be an over-planner. Big time. Since I will be moving out of the state shortly, I am trying to cram in as much time with loved ones as I possibly can. I had planned to go visit my best friends in Portland this weekend, but decided on Friday afternoon that I was too tired to make the trip that night (not to mention how bad the traffic would be at that time anyway). So, voila!, I had a free evening. It was a gorgeous and uncharacteristically warm night so I called up my pal Todd and suggested we get some sushi and ride what I accidentally called the kerris wheel down at the Space Needle. (Great hybrid of Ferris wheel and carousel. Wouldn't that be fun? A pretend horse Ferris wheel? Probably kinda scary. Probably kinda fantastic.)

So, we headed down to the Space Needle, bought some tickets for the rides and acted like a cross between happy children and ridiculously uncool tourists. Ferris wheel, carousel, and bumper cars. Such fun. (A big thank you and shout out to Jasmine. Your ride on the Ferris wheel inspired me. Now I just need to take your advice and kayak. I can't wait!)

(Todd is funny.)

Saturday morning, I woke up and headed to Portland. It's a great city. If you haven't been, I strongly suggest it. I met up with my bff and her hubby. Then our sweet curly haired Laura (I call her Luna Marie) came over and we all walked and shopped. Carina helped me find some sunglasses. (She was an optician not so long ago.) I have a terribly hard time finding sunglasses that don't make me look like an unattractive tranny.

The four of us got caught in the biggest hailstorm I've ever been in. It was like a tropical storm without the warmth and with some hail thrown in. At my suggestion, we then went to one of my favorite creperies for dinner, Le Happy. (I'm mad about crepes.)

The gals then went to see Obsessed. It was, as expected, so bad it was good and called for a very interactive theater experience. (Laughing at Beyonce's terrible performance, yelling at the screen, etc...) It was a great trip with great friends. Even though I don't see as much as I would like of any of the people mentioned in this post (except Beyonce - I like her, but I feel like I see a whole lot of her already), it's hard to imagine that in a month I'll be seeing even less of them. That's the thing about close friendships though, it's not the proximity that ties you together, it's the love. Wherever we all end up, I know this will live on.

(such pretty Sunday brunch beverages)

And now, without further delay... I'm it!

A big thank you to the fantastic black vanilla rose for tagging me. (I was always a very slow runner, coupled with the fact that I didn't give a damn, so I was tagged a lot as a child. This, however, is far more fun!)

Rules to follow... if you're the kind who follows rules: Respond and rework. Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you dislike with a question of your own invention, add one more question of your own. Tag five other un-tagged people.

what is your current obsession? blogging. reading blogs. thinking about what to write on my blog. gushing about other blogs.
what are you wearing now? jeans, a tank, a sweater, some flip flops. it's very glamorous nanny apparel.
do you nap a lot? whenever i can. i looovve it.
what would you like to learn to do?
i want to learn to cook. i want to learn to want to exercise.
what’s for dinner? i'm working tonight - so it's hard to say. it will likely be a bowl of soup or a panini.
what was the last thing you bought? forever 31 sunglasses (i'm sorry, but i never get tired of calling it that. what can i say? it's funny to me.) also, why would a store name itself something that makes you feel old every time you walk in? i don't get it. maybe it's because when you feel bad about yourself you're more likely to buy things in an attempt to feel better. that's the only explanation for the almost unlawfully bad lighting in dressing rooms.
what is your favorite weather? summer, summer and a little more summer. 75 degrees is heaven.
what is on your bedside table? a picture of the boy and me, water, magazines, a couple books, my phone.
what is your most challenging goal right now? i have a couple. moving to Las Vegas and away from my family. getting my first job in my new field. learning to ride a bike without thinking i might actually die from exhaustion and making my bf stop to get me water. (thank you.)
do you have a blog you read daily even when there are no updates? probably not when there aren't any updates, but oh yes, i read several blogs every day. you know who you are. i also find new ones all the time. i may need an intervention.
what would you like to have in your hands right now? my nephew's chubby cheeks. some more coffee.
what would you like to get rid of? intolerance.
what language(s) do you want to be able to speak? spanish, swahili
what's one thing you're looking forward to? i've heard rumor of a trip to lake tahoe. i've never been and it sounds lovely. (oh, and meeting some of my blogging buddies!)
what websites you visit constantly during the day? i'm embarrassed to say, but... perez hilton. people. all my blog loves. hotmail. facebook.
if you were to pick up a pen right now, what would be the first thing you'd write?
some random lyrics i've been thinking about since my road trip.
who was your childhood crush? huey "i wanna new drug" lewis. i saw him in barnes and noble two years ago randomly and i cried. i loved him that much growing up.
what do you want to be... when you grow up? :) a traveler. a writer. a wanderer and a wonderer. a thinker. a dreamer. someone who occasionally cooks something people think is edible, perhaps even good. a lover of music (why is it that people seem to lose this love as they age?). someone who loves and is in love. a mother. happy.
now to sparkle some little ones with fanTAGstical magic... Hmmm... How about Jasmine (who I heart without ever having met her) at An Experiment in Poverty and... anyone else who would like to participate. (Sorry, but I only have a second before I have to run out the door!)

  6. that was such a fun weekend, though far too short of a visit in my book. i still can't believe that torrential down-pour/monsoon we were got stuck in, what a bizarre experience...

p.s. i think i had a nightmare about beyonce, last night!

  9. I meant "your" hair. not "you're" hair. I almost broke up with a guy who misused "its" and "it's." I hope you don't kick me to the curb!
