"... you can dance right through your life."

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

It is now day two out of three in my road trip to my new home, Las Vegas. The last several days have been crazy, happy, emotional and very, very busy. Leaving Seattle was both harder and a little easier than I had been anticipating, but where I'm going... feels unknown. Maybe it's just that I haven't quite processed what a big change is taking place in my life, but when my best friend and I crossed into the state of Nevada, I felt what can only be described as stunned.

{Please don't get me wrong, I am really excited for this next chapter and can't wait to see my feller tomorrow, but am going through the emotions of grieving all that I'm leaving behind.)

I guess, more than anything, I'm experiencing some growing pains. You think these pains are limited to your youth, but I've realized recently that we feel these pains throughout our lives... as we say goodbye to what has been, to make room for what will be.

I'm scared, I really am, but I also feel really brave. You know what? I like feeling this way.

The title to this post comes from a line in the Flashdance theme. If you saw the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, you heard the amazing and touching cover of it by my newest obsession: Hollywood Mon Amour. I've been listening to this song over and over... What a feeling, indeed...

Here's to the fear and the excitement of the unknown... To the things you have to do, the choices you have to make, no matter how hard they are, to discover where your life will take you.

  4. I hope you enjoy your new home in Vegas. But since you're from seattle, it's not that far from Vegas, so you can go home when you need to!

  7. kathleen, you are very very brave. this is SUCH a huge change. i cannot imagine moving away from my family. i just moved 30 minutes away this year, and it feels soooo far. but, hopefully, the distance just makes things that much better when you are with your family and friends. and thank goodness you're moving somewhere that people WANT to visit! i can't wait to see how you settle into your fantastic, new, exciting, LOVE filled life! :)

  9. Can you send some of your braveness my way? I'm going to miss our every-once-in-a-while we-should-do-this-more-often visits. You better believe Lily and I will be heading your way for a visit. I might or might not bring Andy. Depends on if he's been good or not...

  11. I remember my Mum once telling me that any change, no matter how much you want it or how excited you are for it is hard. She said this to me when I moved to Scotland for a while and she said it again when I had my daughter. There is a learning curve involved that makes things both hard and exciting and wears on you like nothing else. I think you spoke your feelings about your move perfectly in this post and I am excited to follow along on your next big adventure.

  12. When we turn a new page of our life's book , it's always very touching and emotional. When had to move 1000km away from home and live in the north of France for work purposes, I've always thought it would be temporarily. Now I'm planning to buy a house here and start a family...Guess you never know what's life is holding in store , hein?

  13. good luck with your move
I'm feeling the same way about college next year,
excited, but not sure about the change. Not sure what's on the next page.
And of all places to move, Vegas!
make sure to have a ridiculous amount of fun.
