The Girl Effect.

Monday, December 7, 2009

My good friend (and one of the two amazing nannies to my beloved nephews) Laura introduced The Girl Effect to me via facebook. The Girl Effect is an organization and a movement devoted to helping adolescent girls in developing countries and, in turn, changing the world.

As much as I would love to blog more about my love of pop stars and puppies, the dresses I'm eyeing for New Year's Eve and the fact that both the best and worst part of my day today was taking myself out to eat at Applebees (yeah, I'm embarrassed), not today.

Let's not forget we have a world to save.

I urge you to check out their website and learn more.

  1. i love this so much. the video was so moving. i just checked out the website and now feel the need to blog about this myself. what an empowering idea.

  2. We're on the same wave length today. I watched Oprah last know how her show comes on at like midnight or something? And it was all about the atrocities that women face all over the world, but especially Africa. And she showed this video. SO powerful. SO amazing.

  3. Oh wow I was wondering what this was on FB...this is incredible.

In unrelated news I love it when you're drunk on cherry pepsi. Is that it? I love you real lifer! haha

  4. This is the most beautiful thing! I wish there was more I could do though, like along with money to help a girl get to school and buy a cow, I could give her a hug - big long reassuring hug, from one girl to another. That is universal.

ps - I somehow never saw that you're a therapist too! Why we're two peas and all that!

  5. Thanks for sharing this. I sponsor a women through this website

It's crazy what $30 a month can do for someone. I think it's so important that we all give back in some way.

  6. this is amazing, thank you for sharing....i must do more research on this!!

  7. Amen sister! What an incredible project! I'm off to check out the website.
