Yoga, Jennifer Aniston & Teen Witch

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

{A little disclaimer: If you haven't seen the fantastic late 80's movie Teen Witch, this post might not make a whole lot of sense to you. Not to mention the fact that you're missing out BIG TIME. At the very least, do yourself a favor and check out the trailer here. I dare you to not spend the rest of the day singing "I'm going to be the most popular girl."}

Let's rewind a little. You see, I'm making some big and little changes in my life. (I'm even on a temporary latte diet for the time being. It's just too much money to spend every. single. day. when I can just make my damned coffee at home. You know?) Anyway, one of these changes includes working out. The world's ugliest gym? You know what I'm talking about. Well, there are days I just can't take it and have to figure out a way to work out at home.

This brings me to yoga and Jennifer Aniston. I really like yoga (although I have the balance of a drunk elephant) and I really, really love Jennifer Aniston. When Brad left her to go play house with that big-lipped home wrecker, our girl Jen turned to yoga and hasn't stopped talking about it since. And we all know how good she looks. This photo of Jennifer's, pardon me, bikini butt is pretty much my all time inspiration (and the photographic love of my friend Todd's life).

So, after years of reading about Jen's love of yoga, her yoga instructor finally released a DVD, Yogalosophy. You better believe I snatched one up asap. The first time I tried it, I loved it. I was downward dogging with the best of them (heck, I was practically practicing with Jennifer!). Oh, and I was loving her instructor. She was funny, wise and cool. I was in yoga heaven.

Then it hit me. Something was off. Very off. The instructor seemed familiar, too familiar. Oh, no. It can't be. I snatched my phone mid-pose and googled away.

Well, friends, my instincts were right. Jennifer's yoga instructor starred in my favorite childhood movie, Teen Witch. Now, if you have ever seen said movie, there is one scene in particular that is burned into your memory forever. Yep. The "Top That" rap scene. Now as much as I love this little movie gem, I have been trying to forget this scene since 1989 and I just realized that the yoga instructor on my television screen is the infamous rapper in the below scene, the same actress who had to say "Look at how funky he is." Check it out for yourself and, yes, I apologize in advance.

Needless to say, I'm still in shock and that DVD is currently gathering dust on the shelf. I'm sure I'll be brave enough to try again eventually, but for now I just don't see how that "rap" scene repeating in my brain can be conducive to a zen state of mind. See what I'm saying?

Oh, and yes, there is a "Top That Teen Witch" fan club on facebook and, yes, I'm a member.

  1. HAHAHA! Crazy!

    And while everyone loves favorite 80s movies are Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, etc etc, it's Teen Witch ALLLLL the way for me! (Even if I was born in June of '89, I'm still somewhat 80s, right? LOL.)

    Top That was definitely one of the weirdest scenes for me in that movie, lol. My sister and I use to (and still do) make fun of that rap! :)

    Thanks for sharing!

  15. I had completely forgotten about this amazing scene. I think that I was embarrassed for these actors even as a small child back in '89.

    Did that guy really have to point his toes like that when he was rapping?

  17. That could probably be one of my favorite clips from a movie of all time. It's "favorited" on my YouTube page and I go back every couple months to watch it and remember why I love life.

    If you just can't make yourself go back, my all-time favorite yoga DVD is this one: http://www.amazon.com/MTV-Yoga-Kristin-McGee/dp/B00006JDTH

    I highly recommend it.
